I Won!!!

Glad at Art Tradition Gallery

Hello Beautiful Art Friends,

I attended last week my friend and fellow artist, Darrel McPherson's art reception and he had a drawing for two of his beautiful paintings and I won!!!! I was the first winner so I could choose which one I wanted. I'm thrilled that I won as I have purchased two of his paintings before and this will make a great addition to my collection.

I hurt my back a couple of weeks ago lifting a table and somehow I pulled something, I could immediately feel it. It seems to be taking a bit to heal so I haven't been able to paint as much as I would like to as some movements really hurt.

I did start a painting of a violinist.  I love violin music, sometimes that's all I play when I do paint. While at the Normal Heights Farmer's Market I spotted a musician playing his violin and asked him if I could take photos. He nodded yes, so I took photos and video.  I returned today to the market and showed him the painting that is almost complete and he loved it! He was really impressed so once I finish it, I think I'm going to gift him a print of it.

My son is now stationed in San Diego for almost a year so we have postponed our moving until next summer. I went to Liberty Station Artwork today and since I will be here next summer, I'm applying next year for a both. Hopefully I will get it.

I am planning on participating on another 30 paintings in 30 days Challenge next month. I will be making small paintings on mat board again. It was a great challenge last year and looking forward to it again.

This is it for now.

Travel and Art

Little Sunflower, 18" x 24" on canvas

Hello Beautiful Art Friends,

It's been busy at my end again. If you subscribe to my newsletter you may already know that this year I got engaged! Yes! Planning a wedding and moving takes a lot of time.

We took a trip to AZ in March as a potential place to move but I found out I'm allergic to something in the air there. It was terrible, so hard to breath, and my throat felt raw and painful.  When I returned to San Diego I did a google search and found out AZ is one of the worse places for people with allergies or asthma and San Diego is the top place to live if you have those problems. I guess I never knew I had problems because I live in San Diego.

In May we explored Tallahassee but my future husband found it hard to enjoy with the heat, humidity and bugs. And we do like sidewalks as we take a walk almost every day and in Talli, as in AZ, not all neighborhoods have sidewalks.

So we are still looking for a place we both like. As for the wedding we decided to do it in WI. CA is where most of our friends are, but my children are in FL and my partner's family in WI, and since his mom can't travel due to health problems, we will get hitch in Milwaukee Wisconsin. I myself love Milwaukee but apparently it could get bitter cold in the winter so we are looking at April 2018 for the wedding.

I have had a chance to paint nevertheless. In May 12 small paintings sold to a couple in Hawaii expecting their first child.  They wanted original artwork for the nursery and I'm so glad they choose my artwork. How awesome is that? Their baby will start with a great art collection, but most importantly, beautiful images for her/him to look at everyday.

This is it for today. By the way, if you are local, my work is at the Del Mar Fair in the Wild Animal section. I went to the opening reception and got to see all the other great works of art.

Love,

Glad

Art & Spirit

Angel Talk

 Hello Beautiful Art Friends,

This year seems to be going faster than I would like!  On January 15, 2017 I had my first talk at HGSA in Escondido. I was invited to speak about Art and Spirit.  I had a hands on collage project for attendees to participate and make it interactive.  I am pleased to say that the talk was a success and got so much great feedback.

As a result from the talk I sold a painting to a new collector and I was booked to do a workshop at The Healthy Spirit in Chula Vista. It's called "Introduction to SoulCollage(R)" and if you live in San Diego and would like to attend, simply email me with your reservation.  The workshop will take place on April 8, 2017 from 6pm-8pm, and the cost is only $20.00 per person. All materials will be provided, no art experience necessary, so come join me on a self discovery adventure through collage cards!

I've been busy creating small abstracts again, and began a new painting that it's probably a result of my collage work. It's different and can't wait to share it with you.

I am not participating in any group shows or galleries this year. I've pulled back as I'm moving at the end of the year and the search for a small town feel with clean air and low crime has taken more time than I anticipated.

It's great to keep my life simple and focus on the joy of painting without promoting the art through different venues as I often do.

Here is to a New Year, full of mystery and adventure!

Love,
Glad

North Carolina & Florida

Boones, NC

Dear Beautiful Art Friends,

I hope your holidays we good, spend with loved ones and hopefully not too stressful.

I had the chance to go to Sugar Mountain, NC for the first time. It was beautiful, I got to ski after 10 years of not doing so. I had forgotten how much fun it was, and why I would go every year to Big Bear California to do so since I was discovered skiing in 1985.

I got to explore small mountain towns like Blowing Rocks and Boones. I fell in love with the mountain and now I long to live near one.

Happy to report that everywhere I went in NC, specially in Ashville NC, art is thriving.  Wonderful sculptures in public places, galleries, co-ops and artful communities.

I gave my first public speaking talk about Art & Spirit on January 15, 2017 at Harmony Grove in Escondido. I was nervous but it went well. We had an interactive part where we created collage cards so it was really fun...I see more collage workshops in the future ;)

I will keep you updated in case you want to learn more about them.

This is it for now, I must really get back to painting.

Love,
Glad
