Catching Up

Venezia, 12"x12" oil on canvas

Hello Art Friends!

It's been a while since I have posted.

There has been lots of travel this year. We put the house on the market and sold it. The house we were going to purchase fell out of escrow so we decided to rent for 6 months while we found our dream home.

Unfortunately, my husband had an accident and with a broken foot, he will be be bedridden for the next three months.
Healing may take longer so it will be a while before we start traveling again in search of our dream place.

I haven't done much painting since August but eager to jump right in again.

I miss so much painting and my art community.  I'm using this waiting time while my husband gets well to restructure my business. I would like to invite you to take a 2 minute questionaire to help me better serve you.

White and Black Assignment

This weeks CVP2018 homework assignment was to create in black in white while keeping in mind design and value principles.

I didn't enjoy the process. Like in life, it's hard to enjoy the moment if you have a conversation in your mind going, and in this case it was thoughts about size, value, design, differences, shapes, etc.

It felt more like design to me, which I'm not very good at, than painting. I found myself doing sketches like I did back when I took drawing classes in college but as soon as I started painting my mind, for the first time since I started painting in 2009 didn't go silent.

As soon as I was done I could hear Nicholas Wilton (mentor) in my mind saying "it's a bit top heavy!"

I find it hard to get the results I wanted with acrylic but I'm sure with time I'll get used to them. All learning in whatever field we have chosen to pursue is good.

Putting a Layer of Gesso on Birch Panel

I learned that some of the birch panels could warp after they dried.  This is due
to perhaps using too much gesso on them. Some people on social media told me
that to avoid that, to gesso the back as well or just put an X on the back with
gesso.

I put two gallon water bottles on top of them and that seemed to do the trick, and
now they are ready to paint on.

A Few of My Favorite Things

Inspiration Board 2018

Hello Beautiful Art Friends,

I have completed my first inspiration board, which is the first assignment for my twelve week mentorship for Nicholas Wilton's Creative Visionary Program 2018.

This is what I learned from creating it:

1) I learned that every realistic painting I have done is connected to something I enjoy doing.

2) I do abstract work from intuition, I never know how my painting will look when it's completed but not sure how that fits with my vision board other than I love color and painting.

3) I love telling stories and I used to paint like this before I took oil painting classes. I did 5 pieces and they all sold but I never consider creating more of these type of paintings because it didn't fit in the realistic or the abstract work I now do. So now I'm wondering if I should do more of these because people who bought the ones I did told me that my artwork made them happy.

4) I love painting the most and I'm in bliss when I paint, thus the addiction to it.

So much more to discover!

Glad
